Only ear mode is for measuring body temperature. Object mode is NOT. Using object mode to measure the body temperature will give incorrect reading. When changing modes, press and hold the Power and TEST button simultaneously. You will see the icon change from EAR to an AIR icon and vice versa so you know which mode you are using. Press the Test button to take the reading. The ear canal must be parallel with the infrared light to get a proper reading for ear mode. Make sure to follow the instructions for accuracy: use the same ear for consistency, make sure the ear is free of obstructions, and be removed 20 minutes from environments where external factors may have influenced your ear temperatures.
