How can the temperature be taken? What is the accuracy of each method?
There are three ways to take a temperature: Oral, Rectal, and Auxiliary (Underarm). Please look over testing directions in the manual for the best testing tips.
- The average normal oral temperature is 98.6˚F (37˚C).
- A rectal temperature is 0.5˚F (0.3˚C) to 1˚F (0.6˚C) higher than an oral temperature.
- An armpit (axillary) temperature is usually 0.5˚F (0.3˚C) to 1˚F (0.6˚C) lower than an oral temperature.
Tip: To save battery life, turn it off the unit after every use. If no action is taken, the unit will automatically shut off after 10 minutes.
How do you know when the result is complete?
When the temperature is complete, the C or F will stop flashing and the temperature will sound an alarm with a series of beeps. An arrow will indicate on the fever line based on the temperature found.
Tip: Normally the alarm buzzes are Bi-Bi-Bi-Bi. If the temperature reaches 100˚F or higher, the alarm beeps more rapidly, Bi-Bi-Bi----Bi-Bi-Bi.
What kind of battery does the thermometer use?
The thermometer uses a watch battery, specifically 3.0 DC CR2032 type. Replace the battery when an empty battery icon appears in the lower right corner of the LCD display.
You can change the battery by opening the cover clockwise.
Tip: A penny or dime can be used to easily open the battery compartment.
How do I access the memory?
In order to access the memory function, you must perform a temperature reading. Once a test is complete, hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds, the display will show MEM entering the memory mode. Press ON/OFF to navigate through the memory. The memory holds up to 10 automatic stored readings.
Tip: You must perform a reading and have the unit powered on when entering the memory function.
Why does the backlight stay on?
The backlight will briefly turn on when the thermometer is powered on, when a temperature result is complete or the memory function is activated, otherwise it will remain on standby.
Why do I have a Lo reading?
Please make sure to check the appropriate way to test based on how you are getting a result. In general you simply place the sensor tip well under the tongue as indicated by the "√". The temperature can also be found via axillary (arm pit) and anally. Make sure to wait until the unit beeps before removing the thermometer. The temperature should be found within 10-20 seconds.
A low temperature fever line indicator will show no color on the fever line if it is < 96.4˚F. If the temperature result is 89.6˚F or less, the display will show the current scale Lo ˚C or Lo ˚F.
Where can I purchase thermometer probes?
We currently do not offer probe covers. You can safely clean and disinfect the thermometer with a soft clean cloth. If needed you can dampen a cloth with water or neutral detergent and rinse thoroughly. Finish by wiping with a soft dry cloth. For disinfecting, a dab of rubbing alcohol on a dry cloth and wiping the tip can be used.
Tip: Do not immerse in water or liquid substances to clean.
