As marijuana and CBD become more mainstream with the increase in legal medical marijuana dispensaries, there are now many different forms of Marijuana (THC) and CBD products available. Some are concerned with the implications these drugs can have in their personal life and society.
Our Marijuana (THC) urine EIA prescreen testing kit is the most popular among all drug testing panels. It can be used to screen forms of Marijuana and CBD substances metabolized in the body.
Marijuana is a drug derived from the cannabis plant. It comes in many forms, such as plant buds, oil, edibles, hashish dabs, and creams. THC, (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical compound in Marijuana that is responsible for a euphoric high when consumed.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound of "phytocannabinoids" found in the resinous flower of cannabis. These phytocannabinoids in the cannabis plant have therapeutic properties when consumed.
Both CBD and Marijuana (THC) are chemically similar to your body’s own endocannabinoids. These naturally occurring metabolites in both are called cannabinoids. This allows them to interact with your own cannabinoid receptors. The interaction impacts the release of neurotransmitter chemicals in your brain responsible for relaying messages between cells, and they have roles in pain, immune function, stress, and sleep.
The difference lies with the chemical makeup. THC is the metabolite in marijuana that causes the psychoactive (“high”) effect. It is mainly found in marijuana in higher concentrations.
On the opposite end, CBD in itself is a non-psychoactive compound, and does not bind to receptors to cause the “high” factor. However, although most think that CBD does not contain THC, that is not always true. THC in CBD substances can range in ratio from zero THC, trace amounts (non-high products) to low THC: high CBD) to high level THC (high THC: low CBD). In general THC-free CBD consumed products should not react with standard THC tests, but anything with any level THC can.
In addition, since both can contain THC and cannabinoids, they can be screened in our Marijuana (THC) drug test panel for those metabolites. This is important and must be considered when screening an individual for this drug.
